The story is told of a man who, when he went to the alter to seek the will of God, found two men waiting to pray with him. They knelt down with him, one on each side. One man began to pray:
"Hang on brother, hang on."
The other man lifted his hands and cried out -
"Let go brother, let go."
The story was told to warn people, with good intentions, to have wisdom when praying for others. But as I thought on it I realized that both men were probably right in their prayers. The secret to walking in the Kingdom is to be able to do two things, that seem opposite of each other, at the same time.
Dead to self but alive in God
Love the sinner hate the sin
Rest while being busy about the Kingdom
Let go of this world and hang onto to the promises of God
This might sound impossible in the world, but even though we are in the world, we are not of it.
"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." I Corinthians 2:12 JM
