Will you share a cup of "contentment" with me?
I believe if Adam and Eve had been able to share such a cup we may not be in the mess we are in today.

After God presented Eve to Adam, Genesis 2:23 says: "And they were both naked the man and his wife, and were not ASHAMED. I looked up the word ashamed in Strong's concordance and found that it is the Hebrew word "buwesh (boosh); a prime root, To pale, i.e. by impl. to be ashamed also to be DISAPPOINTED."

They were content to keep the garden of God and be satisfied in their fellowship with Him. They felt no need for anything else. They were not disappointed or unsatisfied. They were "content."

But after eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Genesis 3:7 tells us:
"and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. "
Notice the word "knew:" - It does not say they "saw" they were naked, it was not just something they observed but something they "knew." Seeing this, I thught of 1 Timothy 6:7-9:
"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out and having food and raiment let us be therewith "content." But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition."

How did we come into this world? Naked. Not just without clothing but without anything in the way of possessions. So it was with Adam and Eve; they were content to keep the gaden and find fulfillment in their relationship with God, but after eating of the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they became "discontented" and began to desire "things." They were no longer content to leave everything in God's hands and trust Him.

Something else had also entered in and when God approached them they were filled with guilt and Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the devil.

Well, I think I will pour me another cup of "contentment," in fact I think I'll just keep the pot hot and ready to pour all the time. JM
