I love the parable of the ten virgins. Five were wise and took with them extra oil; five were foolish and did not. But they ALL slept. The five with the extra oil made it to the wedding while the five foolish did not. But why take a chance by belonging to either group? There was one who made the midnight cry: "Behold the bridegroom cometh!"
I believe that was the bride. She would not have been asleep. The anticipation of His arrival would have kept her awake. The virgins were only a part of the wedding party. The bride was to become one with her beloved. Why would she be sleeping?
"God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. Awake, psaltery and harp; I myself will awake early. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people; and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations." Psalm 108:1-3
